What is Thermage? I’m sure you have all heard of this product over the years, but what exactly is it?

It is a radiofrequency treatment that uses heat energy to stimulate the skin to create collagen and start to firm up. Essentially, it reverses the effects of the aging skin to reduce fine lines, wrinkles, sagging skin, and thinning skin due to aging.

The procedure is suitable for almost anyone. Middle-age and older patients benefit from the anti-aging effects mentioned, while younger patients benefit from “collagen banking” to prevent the signs of aging from ever developing.

The procedure is about one-hour of in-office time. There is almost no preparing needed from the patient—you just need to show up for the procedure. During the procedure, it is quite tolerable, as the procedure uses its own internal cooling system to keep the surface of the skin cool while heating the underlying structures. Therefore, you should not feel any discomfort. After the procedure is finished, patients are immediately able to go back to work, without any downtime.

Immediately after the procedure, patients may already start to see some improvement in their skin laxity, fine lines, and a lifting effect. However, most of the effect will take place over the next 3 months after the procedure.
