Common questions I get asked about Botox®

Since patients ask me these questions all the time about Botox – I thought I’d share some answers to commonly asked questions.

1. Does it hurt?

Answer: Everyone’s pain tolerance is slightly different. Some patients hardly feel it at all, while others feel a slight pinch of the skin. Based on your tolerance, we have ways to minimize discomfort. We believe that getting Botox should be an enjoyable experience.

2. When does it take effect and how long does it last?

Answer: Typically, Botox starts to take effect 3 to 5 days after the procedure and becomes fully effective by 2 weeks. The effect typically lasts 3-4 months. Subsequent Botox injections seem to last longer than the initial injection.

3. Are there side effects after the procedure?

Answer: Most people do not experience any side effects of the procedure. This makes it possible to go back to work after the procedure is done! A small number of people experience some small bruising in areas of injection that go away in 48 hours.

4. Will I become “dependent” on Botox?

Answer: You will not be dependent on Botox. You can stop receiving treatments at any time that you wish to. The effect of Botox will usually disappear by 4 months, so unwanted features like wrinkles will return at that time.

5. Are all brands of Botox the same?

Answer: We use products that are safe and Health Canada approved. So don’t worry – you will receive the best products available on the market.
